Aranea is our flagship brand. Based on the perfect fusion between biotechnology and luxury skin care, the product line pivots around one of Perpetuum’s many innovations: functionalized spider silk proteins, transiently produced in planta.
Silk protein is ideal for skincare applications because it is highly biocompatible to skin which is why it’s such a hot topic in biomedical engineering. Spider silk protein in particular, is one of the toughest materials on earth because it has both tensile strength and elasticity. Moreover it’s soft, lustrous, lightweight, yet incredibly robust.
Our proprietary protein has been awarded an official INCI name which goes by: Nicotiana Benthamiana r-(s-Clostridium Botulinum Polypeptide-1 s-Spider Oligopeptide-1 sh-Oligopeptide-1). For obvious reasons we trademarked it as “sBTX” (Spider Botulinum Toxin). The protein has a chimeric structure and is the result of the fusion between: (i) a single chain protein fragment based on a sequence from Dragline Silk Protein Spidroin 1 which is found in the spider, Araneus diadematus, (i) a single chain peptide produced to be identical to the protein Botulinum Neurotoxin Type A derived from Clostridium botulinum, and (iii) a single chain recombinant human peptide produced to be identical to the human gene which codes for Epidermal Growth Factor.

NEXT-GEN DISSOLVING MICRONEEDLES
NucleoSacran dissolving microneedle patches, are a type of transdermal delivery system that delivers drugs or cosmetics actives efficiently by penetrating the skin with a needle as thin as a mosquito’s proboscis. The needles are composed of two bioresorbable polymers: highly polymerized Deoxyribonucleotide (Integral DNA) and Sacran, crosslinked by the plant-based crosslinking agent: Genipin.
NucleoSacran dissolving microneedle pachtes are a great alternative to the common Hyaluronic Acid-based patches, currently flooding the market. They exert a plethora of biological functions that are only attributable to the biological functions of both materials. Furthermore, the molecular weight of NucleoSacran is calculated to be more than 10 times bigger than common Hyaluronic Acid. It therefore offers extended bioresorbability.
Pre-cut facial masks and gels are also developed. Because of it’s highly anti-inflammatory and soothing action, they can ideally be used after invasive treatments such as dermabrasion-, or laser sessions or just at home after another stressful day.
